Pharmaceuticals
Amberlite™ IRP64 is a weak acid cation exchange resin derived from a methacrylic acid-divinylbenzene copolymer, physically appearing as a white, odourless, fine powder. It is extensively used in oral solid and liquid dosage forms for taste masking and the stabilisation of sensitive, mildly basic active ingredients. Due to its affinity for hydrogen ions, it forms a stable complex in the bottle that releases the drug in the higher pH environment of the intestine. Recommended use levels are determined by the stoichiometric equivalent of the drug, often falling between 1% and 10% of the total formulation weight, ensuring a palatable "clean" taste profile in paediatric and geriatric medications.
